  • Did you break them open to see what had happened? Is there any germination or growth? Did the chick die in the egg. You haven't given enough information. It cold be a fertility problem, a weather or chilling problem, too high or too low humidity. A smaller box would be better, I prefer 9x9 or 10x10 and 11-12 inches tall. And I only use wood shavings in the bottom and make a small hollow, like a dip, 3-4 inches in diameter for the eggs to get cupped in. That keeps the eggs from rolling around. Or you could use white paper toweling and form a cup in it as it's very absorbent and no dust like from shavings. Did you have a bowl of water for the hen to bathe in? She needs to keep the humidity level of the eggs up or they will not hatch out.
  • the eggs were fertile and the chick just didn't hatch the egg. I have a nesing box that has hay in it and it is 12 in by 12 in. Would it been too big and the eggs got cold do i have the right stuff in the box or was it just that they froze
  • How long has it been since she layed them? It could also be that she may not be sitting on them long enough. Also, if you are handling her, that might be another reason as to why she may not be hatching them. Try not to handle her anymore until after the chicks hatch. If you really do want to check if they are fertile, hold them up to the light. Some hens will lay infertile eggs, even when they have been mating. My parakeet did the same and only one hatched out of the 6 eggs she layed. Four were infertile, and the other that was fertile did not hatch because she devoted more attention to the first born chick. You could also try incubating them if you have enough time.
