Depends on the pet. A snake called Fluffy doesn't really work. On the other hand, a tortoise called Fang could be a rather interesting sarcastic name.

Well i have a few pets but the one with the best most original name has to be my kitten, he is 8 months old and he was resuced as a very young kitten. We could not agree on a name and my best friend her son and I were sat in a cafe and suddenly her son Ronan just said 'We are in Dooby's, lets call him Dooby' it stuck and he has always been called Dooby since......its a great name with meaning to me.

I have a dog [husky/shepherd mix] named Link & a tortie/multi kitten named Pixel. I've heard that you're supposed to name a dog a one-syllable name, since the first syllable is all they'll really listen to anyway. Not sure on the validity of that, but seems to work just fine. Of course half the time we elaborate his name into Linksys, Linkerton, etc.

I got a black cat right before the election results came in, and was unsure of what to name him... so, of course, he ended up being Obama. What works out really great is that he is constantly getting in little scraps with my white dog whose name is then temporarily changed to Mccain. Then theres Monica, the pregnant dog, and Hillary, the mildly insane and very bitchy cat. I just got a little white kitten. Not sure which white house figure he will become.
