It should be on the police report (which you'll want to get a copy of anyway). If it's not, your insurance company will probably take the laboring oar and get a statement from the uninsured's carrier that there was none.
Its always good to have PIP & uninsured motorist coverage as well to protect yourself. That way, you will be taken care of by your insurance company and they will take care of going after the person that hit you so you won't have to.
When the cops arrive, they will demand proof of insurance from both parties. License and Registration too...Be prepared!
