Help answer this question below.
I believe the painters were attempting to remove sexuality, while at the same time making the body look more innocent. Few paintings of the crucifixion depict Jesus' penis or pubic hair either. He was hung naked. To be completely realistic he must be drawn nude. Perhaps there are times that realism detracts from the art.
Probably because it is hard to make such sparse hair on the plaster statuettes placed on crucifixes, so the artists all grew up thinking of him as hairless there.
But it might be deliberate, hair usually comes with puberty and all the attendant sinful sexuality. But Jesus (by definition) never had any of that, so his purity could be symbolized by painting him hairless.
Might be a good idea to investigate further, lest you unwittingly offend.
Probably a subtle way of making him look cleaner, more pure...

You're reading Why isn't there hair under Jesus's arm pits or his chest in paintings of the crucifixion?(I'm drawing hair in those places on my painting!)

Well, I'm finished with my ink drawing and it has hair. Jesus is on the cross with the white cloth wrapped around his waist, but he has a beard, long hair, hair under his armpits, and chest. I think he looks normal to me.
