Question

Help answer this question below.

I manage an office complex in Scottsdale, AZ and the entire complex in and outside of the buildings are plagued by a sewer smell. This is not exclusive to our complex but the city is shirking all responsibility...any suggestions to clear the air?

This is a common problem that is often caused by dry traps in bathroom drains. All of the water that sits in the trap of a floor drain can evaporate, which allows sewer gas to travel back up the drain and into the air.

Try pouring some water (you can add an odor inhibitor if you like) down each drain. Also, you may have some sinks and/or toilets with the same problem because they are not being used often enough. Periodically flush the toilets and run some water down the sink drain.

Your janitorial staff should be doing all the above on a regular basis.

If this doesnt' solve the issue, then consult with a good plumber.

You could use citrus with water. Garbage dumps do this alot.
