  • In Australia, if you intend to fish, you need a licence. There is no training, as a matter of fact, they sell them in vending machines at service stations. Very silly, I reckon. Just another revenue maker. This is recreational fishing licences I am talking about.
  • It depends where you are. In Mass. you need a license for fresh water fishing, but saltwater fishing is OK without (although this may be changing to require licensing for all). The license is not a certificate of qualification, but rather a fee/tax to pay for the stocking of some species and wildlife management in general.
  • MOST state laws for fishing are IF you are over 16 years of age ; and are fishing on a PUBLIC lake, stream, river, pond, etc .. that you need to have a state issued Fishing License ... Each states are a little different ; so you will need to check with your liscense isssuing agency ...
  • I don't know where you live, but if you lived in Ontario, Canada you require a boating license if you plan on boating in any of the great lakes. There are two types of fishing licenses, catch and release and catch and keep and there is a limit on most species. There is also specific times of year when you can fish and keep for certain species. The revenue from the licences goes to the fish and game association to replenish the lakes, rivers, and streams. BTW I never had a hot dude train me how to boat! I am jealous.
  • In most cases the fees charged for fishing licenses go toward conservation of the lakes and waterways, the costs of personnel for department of wildlife officers, research and clean up of water ways. In all, it is a pretty small amount of money that goes to a really important projects. But in the same vein, why do I need a marriage license? ;-)
  • It all depends on the state you live in. Florida says you do not need a license if you are fishing from a land based dock. However, if you take to the water on a vessel or craft then you are required to purchase a fishing license which is available from your local tax office or Wal-Mart (sporting good dept) or Sporting Goods Store (DICKS, Sports Authority, Champs, Mom & Pop) or other sources.
  • If you have a boat I believe you can either obtain a personal license or license the boat, there fore any one can fish off it it whether they have a personal license or not. The money does go to conservation and wildlife/ game management. The fees vary from state to state, with resident licsnces at a decent price and visitor/tourist passes that are usually pricey.
  • It varies from state to state. Call your state department of natural resources or your fishing and game department if you have one.
