http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schillinger_System
From a brief look at this article it seems that the schillinger system was an attempt to simplify musical composition and to show the musical elements as represented through numbers.
A difficult way to express what is already simply expressed through standard notation, I would think.

You're reading Are you familiar with the "Schillinger System of Musical Composition"?

Well, I have 2 books here about the system and it looks like calculus to me, with all sorts of charts, graphs, terms like polynomials, pitch ratios, and algebraic equations. Don't think it looks that simple! I'm have to explore it further. Thanks!+

No, I'm not saying it is simple. I'm saying it was supposed to be seen as a simple way to express musical quantities. It seems to me that it is just the opposite. Maybe to those who are mathematically gifted it is simple.

I'll let you know after I get a chance to look at the books better.
