Family issue. I don't like it when the government gets in people's personal lives.
-
I've only just heard about this. It's bloody bizarre. I don't really see how it's an 'issue' though.
-
well it USUALLY includes under-age kids.... so I have to say legal in that situation
-
...I would think it starts as a family issue, if you don't want your kids doing something in particular...you set the groundrules.... The internet and cell phone world are a relatively new forum to govern....where do you draw lines of privacy and lines of abuse and pedophile issues and indecent exposure and the list goes on and on... A very difficult challenge....I say parents must be the guardians, start young folks off with healthy, realistic, sane and decent lives where they can still be kids...they can decide later where they take all that..

Family issue definitely.

What is sexting?
-
It is not the governments damn business..... Parents need to keep up with what their kids are doing... Do we REALLY want to let the government take control of another part of our lives... PLEAAAASE....
-
Legal issue. I've known many families whose parents are ill-equipped to handle this situation. Also, many parents will be much more willing to intervene when they find out that it is not just their kids getting in trouble over this.

Family issue 100%! I am a parent I would look through the phone when ever I wanted! I pay the bill I pay for the phone. They can have that kind of privacy when they pay their own way! Why in the hell are people getting their children cell phones at such a young age anyway? Do they really need a cell phone? I have seen kids as young as 7 at school with cell phones! WTF! Why in the hell does a 7 year old need a phone? Who is going to call? Shouldn't they be with a parent?! . Oh I see what this is now. Just another way the Government can "help" us. Right?! If parents would BE parents this would not be a problem! . Sorry for the rant. I just get sick of parents trying to be their kids friend and not parent!
-
family issue the goverment needs to get it's nose out of the private citzens life
-
Both. There's no way a 40 year old should be sending dick pics to a 13 year old.

I didn't know what Sexting was until this topic was posted, although the definition I read doesn't really reflect the answers give. I read that it was just sexual text messages, the issue of children seems to have been brough up :S

Didn't know sexting was a word, never heard of it, but nevertheless I get your point. Parents need to be responsible of trying to protect their children and catch them way before puberty because of all the pedophiles out there. One of the biggest things is kids don't need to think Hollywood is real life. I'm talking subliminally. I believe Hollywood is the culprit in a lot of cases. Teaching our kids while their young and monitoring what are kids intake is the most important and the most responsible thing a parent needs to do. One last thing is communication, it is key with your children.

Family issue. I have no idea why kids have text- and photo-capable cell phones in the first place. The only thing a kid might need a cell phone for is to be able to call home in the event of an emergency. Everything else is convenience and an impossible-to-monitor playground.

It should be within the family. Government intervenes too much in our private business already.
