  • Regular balloons? More than you can deal with. See http://www.discoverychannel.co.uk/web/mythbusters/picture/balloon/ (check the other images there. The Mythbusters lifted Paul Newman about 30 feet, I believe, on the Today Show.) It took somewhere around 15,000 or so to lift a 44 pound girl on the show, too. Imagine how many they put together to lift Newman? Weather Balloons? Mythbusters did this early on, based on the story of the guy who shot to 12K feet, into the LA flight paths. I believe they managed with 31 or 32 balloons, a specially reinforced lawn chair, and they did NOT release Adam to fly, but let it go up about 50-100 feet, then he shot single balloons out with a BB gun, and floated back, gently, to Earth. BTW: It takes a LOT of helium to do either of these stunts.
