Yes...property taxes too...i've heard rumors that some families have lost their homes but i don't know anything for a fact.

Apoligies for the "recipients" typo in the question! I believe I made up a new word then!

I always thought that it would be funny if it came out that none of the families were real, that all the stories were made up for feel-good purposes. Here's my question relating to that: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/887978

I think they sell half of the new things they got xD

other people pay for them.

I have read where some of those people end up losing the homes because their property tax goes up as well as some of them went and refinanced them and then were unable to afford the mortgage.

I've been seeing stories on the news that a few of the families couldn't afford real estate taxes and are in danger of losing their homes. These makeover shows might make people feel good, but in the end how much good are they doing?
-
I read somewhere that the show initially did these huge remodels, but the families couldn't afford the tax bills that came with it, so now they have the taxes and stuff calculated into what they pay so that the families are left worse off.

one in Ohio was foreclosed.

Have you noticed that often when a home is mortgaged that the show will buy that mortgage for them? I think not having to pay on that mortgage every month would allow for the bills to be paid. Also remember they tend to do everything energy efficient. Well insulated, low use appliances, etc.
