I have. But I've also had MANY more good experiences on eBay.
We had a guy in China steal $250 worth of Metallica vinyl from us - gave us one address, we shipped them, and then changed his address on his PayPal account and claimed the items never arrived. And PayPal REFUNDED him. We don't deal with China anymore. Never had a good experience buying OR selling from China. Brazil can be iffy, too... but it's usually the postal carriers' fault there. The people are wonderful, always pay on time and all that.
The best countries to deal with (that I've found) are Canada, Japan, the UK and Germany. Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands are good too. Good postal system, and the people don't try to screw you over.
Just once, but most of the time it has been good. And as I become a better Ebayer, I know more of what I am looking at, receiving and what to look for in the seller. I am about to enter the world of selling on Ebay, wish me luck!
Not me I love Ebay, even more now that the Canadian Dollar is higher then the American.
Yes. On one occasion the item I had ordered did not arrive. On another, the item Ihad bought turned out to be an illegal copy of software, rather than the original branded product, as described. In both cases, as Ihad used Paypal, I received a full refund. And in both cases, the Ebay resolution centre dealt with the case.
No. But I am extremely careful about what I buy and the ratings of the seller.
I haven't personally, but I know a woman that payed 1500 for a MPC2000 (beat pad) using money order to some guy in Germany, he takes the money and says "thank you". What a loss! She's a pretty "dixie" kinda chick, so...
YES!!! I ordered a coin from the states. It took awhile to come, but it came. I paid the duties on it at the post office, and took it home. When I opened it, I realized that it was the wrong coin and worth nowhere near the one that I had actually paid for. I emailed the company, and they told me to return it to sender and they would replace it. I sent it back (luckily for free). I never got a response back, no refund, no new coin, nothing. I couldn't even get the duties I paid back on it. After all this had happenned, it was too late to file a claim with either paypal or ebay, I couldn't even leave feedback. It totally sucked, because I got NOTHING for all the money I spent. Don't ever order from JacOnline!
This is several years ago but someone hijacked my account to sell bogus goods (they cracked my password - admittedly a weak one - and then changed the e-mail address). I closed down the account before any of the bogus auctions closed.
Yeah, some people try to scam on EBAY and it gets really annoying sometimes.
No, but my sister has. She got banned for not shiiping something she had sold to someone
I ordered an item listed as being in "excellent condition", but it was really in very poor condition. I complained to seller, but she said, "Are you stupid? I wouldn't sell anything in excellent condition for that price." It was $2, with $12 postage, she said she would refund my $2, if I returned it, but not any of the "postage", it was going to cost me $4 to send it back. I declined, I knew she would relist it and sucker another buyer.
I reported her, but you never know if there is a follow-up.
I almost ended up being someone's negative experience, because I let a friend sell something with my account, and she was a complete spazz about getting it mailed out.
ugh. It's a damn miracle i didn't get a negative rating on that, I would have completely deserved it.
Horrible Ebay-seller defrauded and sent bad juicer w/missing parts-ebay made him pay original price and shipping. But, I had to pay the shipping back to seller: $26.99, even though the seller was at fault. I get stuck w/shipping it back at my expense..very sad-I won't be buying on Ebay for along time. Doesn't take care of buyers well. No wonder they had to lay off 25% of their staff.
My case is similar to Bedolaga on November 10th, 2010. I bought a PS2 in used condition. When I powered it up the tray got jammed. The seller says that the product was ok right before leaving his house (???). The controller was faulty too. Sending it back it's almost the same price of the item itself because I sent it to Guatemala trusting that it was ok. I guess I wasted $50.00.
My conclusions:
Never buy from ebay anymore. I will look for other places where refurbished items are available and covered by any kind of warranty. Thank you for reading. Federico
The seller sent me an obviously defective product. After lengthy negotiations with the customer service I received a reply that I must return item to seller. In my case, shipping cost is three times more expensive than the product itself. The responses obtained from Customer Support, I realized that I will return all the money.
Why was I so naive?
I got back only the cost of item.
Very interesting situation. If I did not contact the Customer Support and do not take any action I would have lost only $15, but with the support of the Customer Support I've lost more than $40. Nice. Thanks a lot.
Conclusions:
1. I am not protected from dishonest sellers.
2. I can not get any help from Customer Support.
3. Even if the assistance will be provided, then the chances are that to me from this assistance will only be worse.
4. I must stop any activity on eBay and search for alternatives.
5. Trust completely lost.
All this is sad and insulting. I was a victim of the seller-cheater. Spent time and money. And in the end was left without money and with a very bad mood. Do not repeat my mistakes - do not count on the fact that you're being protected and ready to help you.

I bought a couple of different things on ebay and the prices were so low that it didn't really matter to me that they were poor quality. I bought matching watches for my wife and I and it turned out that the watch irritated my wife's skin.
I also bought a cheap surround sound system for my computer and it sounded crappy.
My dad had a really bad experience though. He bid on a Magellan GPS unit and won and he paid for it and then the guy that sold it to him kept giving him excuses about why it was taking so long to ship. After awhile the guy stopped responding and it turned out that ebay has a time limit for entering a claim and it was already past. The guy shut down his account and left with about 20 negative ratings that all said the same thing about him not shipping anything.
Yes, I have had two bad experiences. My last one happened last week.
I ordered a new Fodors Germany tour book for my son who was leaving for Germany on May 3rd. I ordered it “buy now” on April 20th. I paid and it was acknowledged on April 21st. They shipped held it to ship until April 30th.
It arrived the morning he had already left for the airport.
Now you know the drill. I mark the seller down, and she marks me down. She does many more transactions than I do, so the negative rating hurts me more.
Welcome to E-bay.
The seller advertized that she was selling a face cream. The picture was not clear but the heading and description described the item as StriVectin wrinkle cream. I recieved the item and it was not face cream. It was cream for stretch marks. I contacted the seller and she said I couldn't read and I was just having buyer's remorse. I started to giver her a poor rating and Ebay pop-up said they had insurance for the buyer who did not get what they paid for, so I opened a complaint against the seller. Customer service responded and they agreed with the fradulant seller. I paid over $60 for this item. I agree with the prior posting.

I was not protected. I don't think customer service even read the sellers's description. I think they made the decision based up them having to reimburse the $60. I tried to close my account but they said it can't be closed for 6 months. I don't know why this is. I paid for all of my items and I have no open bids. I guess they are hoping I will reinstate my account. At chance.

My Husband and I have had a few bad experiences. Most of them have been items that have been won and then not paid for resulting in opening the resolution centre to at least get fees back.
However, in October we had a big problem. A guy in London bought 2 items totalling £112. He paid for them via paypal. Once we received money into account, we shipped items. He left positive feedback and then contacted paypal to say the payment was unauthorised. A case was opened to which we sent evidence of shipping, emails from the buyer saying he had received goods and authorized payment, but because he wouldnot telephone paypal and speak to them direct confirming payment, they refunded payment to him and charged us for the experience!
We lost the goods and the money!!
We took the guy to court issued a judgement but he still did not respond. the reply from ebay was of no help. Basically as someone previously stated, Ebay is an open market for criminals and con merchants. BEWARE!!!!
Ebays response below:
Thank you for your email. I understand your frustration with this situation, as the buyer " who cancelled their payments for the items they purchased from you and you believe they received these items. Please remember that, although we're commonly referred to as an online auction website, we're not a traditional auctioneer. Our site is a venuewhere anyone can offer, sell and buy just about anything, at anytime, from anywhere, in a variety of formats. At no point do we have possession of anything listed or sold through the site.
Because eBay is not involved in the actual transaction between Buyers and Sellers we have no control over: - the quality, safety or legality of the items - the truth or accuracy of the listings- Feedback or other content posted by users on the site - the ability of sellers to sell items - the ability of buyers to pay for items- whether a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction We have a User Agreement and a set of policies that outline what we expect from our members. Our Feedback system allows members to flag other members who don't live up to expectations.
While we can limit or suspend member accounts, we don't have the powers of the police or the courts. This means we can't mediate or take sides in a dispute, make decisions for a user, force a user to fulfil their obligations at the end of a listing, or initiate a criminal investigation against a user.
As you've already pursued this as a civil matter, your solicitor can contact us for information at the following address: eBay Europe S.à r.l. Attn: eBay.co.uk Legal 22-24 Boulevard Royal L-2449 Luxembourg I sympathise with your predicament and I hope this information clarifiesour position for you.
I am currently in a dispute with ebay over a missing item, the reason being they supplied me with the wrong address, it went missing, then they refunded the buyer.
So far I have been complaining to their so called 'customer support' department, for four and a half months, and recieved no support at all.
I'll be taking my custom elsewhere in future, if you shop around there are decent companies selling the same stuff cheaper!

I think the real question here is what on earth were you doing with $250 worth of Metallica vinyl?
by Halskiisaklink on March 13th, 2008
Uhm... I'm sitting in a room with over 10,000 records, all in mint condition.
My husband's been selling his record collection for 7 years, and has barely made a dent.
We actually just recently had a $1200 week of Opeth.

Realistically, you can't be too sure with any one country (although, I found Japan quite trustworthy). The world is a small place with many many different people.
