Help answer this question below.
Why would you ever be texting or calling your teachers?
I think you're onto something identifying the question as whether you need a reply or you're just notifying them of something.
I'd break it down one step further -- if an immediate notification is needed, text. If not, send an email.
And, if you need a response, call.
It all depends on your teachers and what they are comfortable with or prefer, I don't think there is a rule.
I tend to think a phone call is more polite... but some of my teachers encouraged texts, and I think the way that you go about it seems just fine too!
If I were a teacher...For my own protection and peace of mind, I would prefer communication via E-mail only!
Do it until something doesn't work out right or until someone complains.

You're reading Is it polite to text your teachers or should you just call them by phone to talk? At times, I do text when I don't expect a reply or when written communication is essential but I feel uncomfortable texting teachers. What are your thoughts on this?

I could see calling a teacher if you're doing homework and you want some good help with it.
.
However, I wasn't the most eager student and I never had no desire to call any of my teachers. :p

Lovehearts- My college professors have been known to give out their phone numbers. Must just be a cultural thing.
