Why is my 2004 grand am v6 over heating when ac is turned off?

    Your thermo switch might be bad. The electric fans aren't being turned on by the switch when the temperature reaches a certain point. When you turn on the A/C, the fans are turned on automatically and when you shut off the A/C the fans go off. Normally, the thermo switch would keep them on. I'm not sure of the location but it should be threaded into the intake manifold somewhere. On some brands it is threaded into the radiator. It is not the same as the temperature sending unit for the temperature gauge.
