  • Mostly discoveries in astronomy. Remember he lived in the 1600's, a long time before NASA and did all his discoveries through the use of a seventeenth century telescope. He is famous for many things, but he focused (pun intended) on Saturn and the moon. Galileo discovered Saturn's moons or satellites. He was one of the first to observe sunspots, and craters. But he also made outstanding contributions to physics, tide theory and technology. - objects would drop at the same speed (regardless of weight, without air resistance) - theorized about the moons affect on tides - had pre Einstein theory of relativity theories He also made contributions to mathematics and challened the bible about old testament quotes regarding earth and sun movements. He was quite a rebel. (So much more but these are a few he's famous for. Hope that helps!) http://www.galilean-library.org/index.php
