    It does. I have a whole notepad full of them. But they are disturbing as I went through a self harm stage and still am. But I'm slowly trying to wean myself off cutting

    Yes, but only if the emotions themselves are not named. When a writer says, "I felt despair" or "I was so happy," it becomes maudlin doggerel. A poem evokes feelings without naming them.
