Help answer this question below.

If a close AB friend were to be jailed for some minor offence, would you drop him from your friends' list, or would you stand by him, believing in his proclaimed innocence? The question holds equally for a female AB friend too.

If I knew this person well enough to think of him/her as a close friend, I would accept a declaration of innocence. What good is it to have friends if you don't trust them? Trust doesn't happen just when the waters are smooth. Sometimes you are called upon to trust someone when the stakes are higher.

If it turned out the person lied and had committed the offense I doubt our friendship would continue.

- I agree with you, except that even if he lied about his innocence, I would "forgive him his tresspass", and retain his/her friendship. Being dumped can be a very harrowing experience for the victim.

3 of my friends in real life are sitting for life in the Fed.excuse my language but they ain't gettin out live.i have no issues with them.we made our peace at first chance and it's cool.

- I'm assuming your question is referring to something AB related. If you were referring actual jail for an actual crime, I still wouldn't know about it, and thus still wouldn't care, and still wouldn't do something as meaningless as deleting them from my friends list.

If an AB friend is to be jailed in real life you are unlikely to know about it.
But there is an equivalent of a jail in the Answerbag. It is called the Penalty Box.
People here can get put into the PB for no offence committed. Having participated in comments thread that turned really abusive with an innocuous comment could result in a PB.
So it would be on a case to case basis.
But as it is none of my AB friends are likely to get into the PB for any mistake of their own creation.

  The penalty box is AB terminology for "locked out of your account". If the powers-that-be at Answerbag HQ feel that a user is abusive, posts obscene material, or spams the site, he gets locked out of his account for a certain period of time. You can also get penalty-boxed for responding aggressively to abusive comments, which is called "perpetuating a conflict". No one in the PB can ask and/or answer questions, read and/or write comments, or rate anything.
  
  As far as I know, the first offense lasts from one to three days and up to twenty years or more, if the user continues his/her offensive behavior. The AB staff members and the Community Leaders are the only people who can penalty-box anyone. Regular users, no matter how highly they're ranked, do not have that power.
  
  NOTE: When comment thread debates degenerate into name-calling personal attacks, generally, everyone involved gets PB'd for "escalating conflict on the site", typically for three days. The thing is, AB has so many users now that when conflicts occur, the already overworked staff doesn't have the time or energy to figure out who's right or wrong. And remember - AB is a website, not a dispute resolution center. Staff members are not mediators. They're focused on keeping AB running smoothly (conflict free), so everyone has a positive experience. That's why attackers and attackees alike get PB'd, no questions asked - it's quick, efficient and uncomplicated.

- That is when you type the entire comment. You must limit yourself to 600 characters.
  If you write part of the comment and cut and paste the remaining, you could go upto 1000 characters. I could not write the last line in the comments box as it would have exceeded 1000 characters. Thats why I had to post it as a seperate comment.
  The rules are the same for all of us. No special treatment for either of us!
