Help answer this question below.

Why have JWs been telling their believers for the past 100 years that they are the one truth and that the world is going to end, when Luke 21:8 says don't believe anyone who sais "I am the one" and "The time is near!"

Because this is what they believe and they are trying to get this truth out to you. It is up to you to investigate everything to decide if they have the truth or not. I don't think they should be degraded for trying to help you know the truth as they see it. You are the only one who can make the decision for yourself. But, please, don't take anyone's word for it, do the work yourself.

To begin, many groups that practice Christianity believe that true faith is the “one hope” that was set before them in Ephesians 4:4-6, as follows: “One body there is, and one spirit, even as you were called in the one hope to which you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all persons.”
That is not to be dogmatic, but simply stating how many groups feel.

The Bible clearly shows that this “world” or system of things, not the planet is indeed going to come to an end.
Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that truth. The overwhelming majority of those who identify themselves as Christians believe this also.

Jesus foretold that there would be wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, hatred and persecution of Christians, false messiahs, and a widespread preaching of the good news of the Kingdom. Then the end was to come. (Matthew 24:4-14; Mark 13:5-13; Luke 21:8-19)

Indeed, Jesus urged his followers to “Keep looking, keep awake, for you do not know when the appointed time is.”—MARK 13:33.

Why keep awake? Because this is the most perilous time in human history. For Christians to give in to spiritual drowsiness at this time would be disastrous. If we become complacent or allow our hearts to be weighed down with the anxieties of life, we will be in danger. At Luke 21:34, 35, Jesus Christ warned us: “Pay attention to yourselves that your hearts never become weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day be instantly upon you as a snare. For it will come in upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth.”

No we do not know the hour or the day, and efforts to determine such are fruitless. However Jesus gave compelling evidence to help us to identify various indicators that would certainly indicate his presence. We all do well to heed these signs.

The entire verse says;(Sorry I didn't have room to write it out in the question)"Stay alert! Don't be deluded. You know, many will come using my name and claim, "I'm the one!" and "The time is near!" Don't go running after them! And when you hear of wars and insurrections, don't panic. After all, it's inevitable that these things take place first, but it doesn't mean the end is about to come." Why then do witnesses keep saying they are the one and the time is near?

Please tell us from what version you are quoting these verses. I'm sure you know the difference between a translation and a paraphrase. Let's get together on what this verse really says, its context and relation to the rest of the Bible. Then we can discuss the question intelligently. Thanks.

Did that verse get omitted from the New World Edition? That would explain it. Otherwise, they should probably re-read that, think it over and see if 2+2 still equals 4. But sure sounds like they espouse false doctrine.

i studied a long time with JW's. this is why I found my way back to the ones that taught me that to say that is Judging and only God has that right...not man..
no one knows the time, except the Father..
they made me "stumble",tremendously. I cannot tell you how they tore my heart out telling me that what I have always believed of God was not true... I am just glad that I woke up and went back to God..(they even told me they were sorry that I left God! i told them I did not feel that way at all) the Watch Tower has total control, all their monies go there, this is not the way the early churches did. I simply went back to where I felt was closer to those early Christians and assemblies...from my own studies...
Of All Things, I just remember, "Revenge is mine, saith the Lord, I will repay".

good for you, the only way to ward off such as JW's is to HAVE KNOWLEDGE of God and how HE wants us to do...we have to keep reading HIS Word so we can each discern for ourselves..you know what it says..that was all that SAVED me, and I was very vulnerable at the time...and I RAN back and GOD wants us to be CONFIDENT not INDECISIVE...go with GOD

Read the entire chapter 7 of Matthew. This will better explain the point Jesus was making at Luke 21:8. Men/Women have a choice to make. Take the broad and spacious road leading to destruction , or the narrow and cramped road. In this chapter it also identifies that there will be false prophets (those saying they are the one) and to look out for them. In fact in Vs 21-23 Jesus identifies there would be some who claimed to be his disciples, who did powerful works in his name that were "workers of lawlessness".

So the point is, Jesus knew and prophesied that there would be a small group doing his will (narrow road), while the majority of those claiming to be his followers were on the broad and spacious road leading to destruction.

What JW's do, is study the bible diligently and try to put into practice what the bible tells believers to do.

For example, most christian religions practice christmas, even though it's common knowledge that it began with pagan origins, the roman saturnalia festival. JW's do not, because that would be a corruption.

I'm assuming you've read a lot of the bible, and if so, can you imagine Jesus taking part in warfare. JW's do not, as they were told, Jesus kingdom is not part of this world, and effectively to turn the other cheek.

The bible teaches there would be a small number of people who would go to heaven (Rev 7, Rev 14, John 10) while many would live on the earth (Rev 21, Ps 37, ...). This would fulfill god's purpose to turn the earth into a paradise, that he gave Adam. Most Christian religions teach the greek philosophy that men have an immortal soul and will live on after death. This is in spite of Eccl 9:5.

    etc. etc. etc.

You choose to believe what you want.

For me, I've read the bible multiple times, read the research about what Origin, Marcion, Justin Martyr, and others added and changed the teachings of Jesus, and decided I prefer to practice Christianity as Jesus taught it.

Can you imagine Jesus taking part in the Crusades, the Inquisition, World Wars, the political intrigues of the popes, etc, etc, etc,??

    I can't.
