If someone has been smoking pot for 16 years do they still get high/stoned even if they only take a few hits a day to "relax" or to feel "normal" what effect does it have on them still? Does the body build up a tolerance to it?

thank you for your input, but i'm just wondering if it's possible that after all those years of smoking, it doesn't get you high anymore. My BF explains that it just makes him relax and that he doesn't smoke it to get high/stoned. Do you think what he's saying is true? he only smokes at night, a few drags...he's trying to quit and smokes every other night to "relax" thank you!!

Hes telling the truth, after smoking for all thse years and he only takes a few drags, it wouldnt really get him that high, but more of a relax and happy state like he claims.

why can't he be happy without it? He says he's very happy with me and one has nothing to do with another and that it's a mental addiction. I just wish i was enough. if his brain thinks it's normal to be stoned and that it levels him out, that he must be smoking more than once at night in order to function through the morning and afternoon, right? Thank you ( i know, i need help)this isn't easy for me to understand or deal with after finding this out TWO YEARS into our relationship! Did it alter his mind so much so that he doesn't remember any beautiful memories we made? Was he sober or stoned all those times? Is he really the man he led me to believe he was.....sorry for venting. I feel like i can't get an honest answer from him about THIS! He is wonderful in every other way, that's why it hurts so bad. I feel torn!

The small amount hes taking just means its something he has to do, he wouldnt get that high, and yes im sure he can remember the memories you guys had. and im sure hes happy with you, its not a matter of that, it provides a diffrent kind of "ahh im free from my own mind" happy. he might not have told you since he might not see it as a big thing. smoking marijuana is looked upon in so many diffrent ways, you both have to take each others views in consideration when dissgusting the matter.

i guess everything is ok. i told him i'd leave him alone about this since he swares it's something he has to do to relax his mind. he said it's like medicine to him. do you think what he's telling me is true...that it doesn't get him stoned? he smokes such a small amount every evening to clear his mind.....

p.s is it possible to be stoned, but not act stoned/ he never appears to be high/stoned...he's never unrealistic or out of control,never loses interest in anything and never passes out on the couch. he said his mind was always going before he ever started smoking pot and that he could never focus or concentrate on any one thing, but pot is the only thing that helped him so he started "medicating" himself with it. do you know anyone like that?

Even after 15 years of daily use? he's telling me he doesn't do it to get stoned and that he just does it to "relax" or feel "normal" ..does his brain think it's so normal to be stoned that he doesn't even realize he's stoned? He never appears to be. If it "levels him out" than wouldn't he need to smoke more that once at night? How would he function or feel "normal" without it the entire morning and afternoon, like he used to?? Maybe he still does smoke in his car to and from work! I'm sorry, i'm just tired of the lies!!!!He said it doesn't have that effect on him anymore. Could this be true or not? thank you!

Tired of what lies? Why don't you calm down and just trust him? I don't really see what the problem is, anyway. Like you said - he's not smoking pot all day long. People CAN be daily smokers and not be dependent on pot to "function or feel normal". Nonsmokers don't seem to understand that pot doesn't have the same kind of addictive qualities as say, heroin or nicotine or alcohol. It IS possible to become psychologically dependent on it, the same way people become addicted to shopping or internet chat rooms, but that's only if they already have a predisposition to addiction (genetically or acquired). If the man needs a few tokes to relax at the end of the day, so what?

thank you for your help. About the lies, i'm referring to finding out about him smoking pot after 2 years into our relationship. i found weed in his coat pocket and he denied it was his, then shortly after he moved in , i found a stash under the coach, and more in the BBQ...he had no choice but to come clean and he admitted that he had a problem, an addiction to marijuana, and it wasn't something he was proud of. Throughout our relationship and for the past 15 years+, he was smoking 2 or 3 times a day, although looking back, i never realized it b/c he never appeared to be stoned. I guess it was shocking to discover it, and it did hurt to find that out about him after so long. I just wish he had been honest w/me instead of lieing about it. I didn't appreciate the way I found out especially since we have a very open, honest and trusting relationship. He claims he never told me b/c he was afraid i would never had gone out w/him and he didn't want me to walk away. He's trying to ween himself off and quit. Thank you so much!!It did help me alot
