  • It's a test to see how well the series will do with audiences.
  • Saying its a Pilot episode, the first one and to work out the kinks. But not all of them have one....Whose Line Is It Anyway had one, and that show where the bloke tries to escape had one.
  • It's the test epi. Many shows don't get past that.
  • Here's a working defintion of "pilot episode" in the context of television: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pilot_Episode I like the idea of seeing a pilot as a precursor .. or a prototype. Was interesting to read that only a little over 25% of all tv pilots made move on to be come an actualy tv series.
  • Pilot was originally a seafaring term. A pilot is someone who navigates (guides) a ship when the captain is unfamilar with the area he is sailing in. When drilling a hole in wood, metal etc. you could drill a pilot hole FIRST..a pilot hole is a narrower hole that's a GUIDE to the bigger hole. So a pilot episode is the first episode that guides the viewer into the series. ??
