Cheers to the person who said cut the USPS. The Goverment should have no hand in anything that could be handled by private companies. Right now there is DHS, UPS and Fedex. If there was no USPS then more private companies could jump into the fray. Competition would depress prices and create better, faster service because everyone would be competing for clients.
Cut the pay of every member of congress. Make the benefits for govt. employees similar to those of employees in the private sector. For example, vacation and sick leave days and medical coverage.
the FREE medical for the illegals!
1. I would phase out social security - It was never intended, even by Roosevelt himself, to be a permanent retirement safety net. It was implimented around the time of the Great Depression which was a very anomolous economic time in our country. People should be expected to save for their own retirement or be relegated to working for the rest of their life. Simple financial literacy classes in elementary, middle and high school could be taught to inculcate this into the next generation.
2. Severely revamp Medicaid and Medicare - I work for a large state university system, and come into contact with a huge number of low-income consumers of entitlement programs. Significant numbers of people who are not disabled in anyway take part in these programs not only as a means to get through tough times, but as a permanent lifestyle choice. Anyone who thinks that massive, epidemic-scale fraud isn't taking place in these programs is ignorant. I hear all the time, "oh nobody would choose to be poor." BULLCRAP. Open your eyes and don't be an ignorant simp!
Social Security, medicaid and medicare, by the way are about 50% of our nations budget. 50% of our nations tax dollars go to entitlement programs.
3. Go back to a military strategy of containment like that of Bill Clinton. In other words, don't start needless wars with countries that pose no threat to the United States that cost billions upon billions of dollars. Just don't immasculate the CIA like Clinton did because that opens you up for gaps in our nations intelligence.
These steps, that will never happen by the way because our country is doomed to end up like socialist European countries, would save trillions of dollars, still help those who truly need it, and make us look better in the world community by keeping us out of other countries business.
I would cut the benefits to those members of Congress who consistently harangue about small government, socialism and welfare states..you know those guys have the cadillac of insurance coverage..free cars sometimes..reimbursed expenses.."junkets" at taxpayer expense. Everyone one of them who votes against "stuff" for we the people..let's cut those taxes that benefit them as the welfare recipients they really are. How do we go about that? :)
Eliminate cost overrun allowances on construction.
Severely cap welfare.
Scale back our military and focus on America and her immediate neighbors. (If there's a country that needs help it's Mexico)
Convert Every possible government building to use solar power and LED lighting. (initial cost made up in under ten years as well as lessening the draw on power grids keeping electricity cheaper for everyone)
Reduce street lamps on freeways. Within the city limits my town's freeway has lights on both sides of both directions every thirty feet. No one is walking down the freeway, cars have headlights, having four 500 watt HPS lights every thirty feet is ridiculous.
Eliminate the USPS except as an oversight board.
One last major change I'd like to see that isn't a cut is a 100% tax on water. Double the price, make people conscious of using it and provide money to learn how to have some in the future.

Some states are now planning to tax sodas at 10% more to cut down on the obesity rate. Will it work or will it be like everything else and people will pay it?

You're reading Nobody loves paying taxes. Most insist government is wasting $$. But when asked what to cut, most either can't come up with much in savings or slash things that are vital to many others but that don't benefit them personally. What would you cut?

Maybe. But USPS prices can't be beat and there is nothing else for delivering ordinary mail, not packages.
