  • Put yourself in the owner's shoes. How profitable has the company been over the past year? What part did you play in that profitability? How hard would it be to find, hire and train a replacement for you/ Would it cost more to replace you than the increase you plan to ask for? This exercise should give you an idea of what's fair and a good start at organizing your arguments to ask for it. Bear in mind, though, that as a business owner, I've already thought through these things, so this won't work if you work for me. :) Good luck in negotiations.
