  • Long term, yes. At some point this planet will end. Short term we would need some way to live past planetary catastrophes such as a meteor making the planet uninhabitable for hundreds, perhaps a few thousand years.
  • Since all practical off planet proposals that I've read involve heavy reliance on Earth to at least some degree for long periods of time, probably not. Until they can find a practical way to live off-planet without reliance on Earth this won't work.
  • i think the key to the survival of the human race is to learn to live with each other
  • With all due respect, he's a smart guy and all.. but no. The key to survival of the human race is to get smarter at a global level. We do a lot of stupid stuff, and if we go elsewhere we'll take our stupidity with us... unless we wise up. We already know most of what we need to know to solve the crucial problems plaguing the planet -- we have *that* kind of smarts already. The kind of smarts we need is the kind that will stop us from ignoring what we already know.
  • I do agree, but I'm thinking in terms of the far, far future.
  • It's an intriguing solution. I wonder what it would take to see it fulfilled.
  • Yes. We are slowly killing our planet...many of us are quite aware of that fact but some of us steadfastly refuse to consider that possibility. It isn't an immediate need but eventually at some future time we shall have to abandon earth and go where no man has gone before! :)
