Are high hearing range frequency alarm clocks in-effective compared to an earthquake?

    It depends on the person.

    Some people, especially older people, are utterly incapable of hearing high frequencies whereas some people (like me) can hear things too high for most people to figure out why I am wincing.

    As for earthquakes, it also depends. I lived on Navy ships for a few years so a low frequency rumble or even the whole room bouncing a foot or so (my first ship had a bent driveshaft) won't wake me up, though the thudding and rocking may jolt others out of a sound sleep.

    beep beep and boom boom are very different but beep boom makes sense to me.
