No a sport requires some sort of physical exertion at the very least. This isn't to degrade poker because I think it takes talent and skill and a knowledge/feel for the game. But honestly someone with no arms and no legs could play it by simpily having a representative make the moves for him. Same thing with chess.

Yes, many people may not think it's a sport but it is. It takes mental concentration and you are always trying to make out the next move of your opponent. Then, you must make a decision rather to fold, raise, or go all in. It's a different kind of sport. All sports don't have to be active and athletic. That's why poker may not be for all people and why there are many different sports to choose from.

I don't think so, I think sports involve more activity then poker does. It is more of just a game, despite how much skill it takes to play and be good.

Poker is a game. It can be a hobby. I guess one could do it for a living. It isn't a sport, unless you make it into one. After all, we now have extreme ironing, a sport (I'm not making this up). You could try playing poker as you climb a mountain or go scuba diving. Then it would be a sport. How is golf a sport? Someone once said that golf is old men in funny pants, walking. Just kidding. It does require some exertion. Oh, yeah, and curling. All that is, is ice sweeping. Sweeping is housework.

Well - There are a number of cable sports channels that I receive, (in the U.K.), called Sky Sports, and the channels shows poker games being played sometimes. So I suppose the people that run the channel consider it to be a 'sport.' But personally, I don't think it is.
