Why is there so much interest in chair designs, according to some museums?

Very interesting! I've seen many a chair at museums. I thought that if you were a designer of sorts, you would have to have a fabulous chair creation in your repertoire, just because all great designers do. I thought it was also a status symbol that you have arrived if people pay attention to your other work, they will surely pay attention to your chair, as I imagine that designs of chairs are massive. But who wouldn't want a chair designed by Picasso or Matisse? Thanks!+

I'm not sure Picasso or Matisse did chair designs, I may just be unaware. I have found most sucessful furniture designers to be only furtiture designers and/or architects. Designing furniture is very technical and of course somewhat "structural". I tried to load photos earlier and didn't have any luck. I'll try again.

Those certainly look like works of art to me! Especially the Cross Check Arm Chair. Something about it reminds me of the sculptures of Calder. Maybe his jewelry creations. I also liked the way they described the purpose of the chair, it's attractiveness to the viewer, it's purpose in providing many services to the person sitting in the chair, and it's durablitiy and other descriptions. I didn't realize how much there is in thinking about a product when you are designing it. I am also amazed these creations occurred a long time ago, but they are still in style and look modern! You're welcome. The task chair, which is the Aeron Chair, is actually a newer design and it's my understanding that it has already been inducted into the Museum of Modern Art. I have personally sold thousands of those chairs and it does have some amazing features.

I've actually got an Eames Lounge chair aand ottoman but would love to have the Cross Check chair. I am more rustic in my personal interior design and think the Cross Check chair would blend in nicely. It would definately be a great accent piece.

I don't know why the Aeron Chair reminds me of an old fashioned barber's chair, but it does. It doesn't surprise me that is it now in the Museum of Modern Art. The Eames Lounge chair and ottoman is a luxurious chair with its ottoman. It looks like the state of the art for its purpose. I think it is very masculine also. The Cross chair is a creative piece of art! It would be a perfect accent piece. I hope you find one for your home.

It looked a little too rich for my blood especially these days! Ha, ha....We could do what the famous artists used to do when they didn't have furniture, they just painted furniture on the walls. Was it Goya who did this? Anyway, since you are an artist, find you a large wall space and paint the darn chair!
