Question

Help answer this question below.

My lhasa apso dog has started scratching. She is five years old. It isn't fleas. The vet has given her steroid tablets, which I am not happy about. Do you know of a herbal treatment I could try?

    We found the solution.
We have had the same problem with our Ihasa apso along with a dark wax in the dogs ears and an odor.
My wife has tried everthing including Steroids from the vet.
My son recently got poison oak and got a $4.00 perscription (Walmart) from the doctor for treatment.
He had several pills left so my wife gave 1/2 of a pill to our dog and the itching stopped immediatley.
As long as he gets 1/2 of a pill each day he no longer itches and the wax in his ears and smell is completley gone too.

Sounds like allergies to me. I'd change his diet to a natural one, all raw food, raw meaty bones, no grains or veggies. We feed B.A.R.F. (Bones and Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Food). Dogs can't really digest grains and vegetable matter as they lack the digestive enzymes so really commercially dog food is not good for them. But when you change their diet they get so much healthier, they have shiny coats, great clean teeth, better muscle development, small nearly scentless poop that just turns to chalky powder in a few days.

Check out these links for more info about this kind of diet.

Dry skin. The vet did right. but you canalso help by running it down with liquid Vit. E they sell it at Wal-Mart for a couple of dollars and it will help the itching also.

Steroids are very good for the inflammation that is probably causing your dog to itch so much; however, if you decide to stop giving her steroids, don't take her off of them cold turkey. You would have to reduce the dosage down slowly. Have you noticed an improvement when she is taking them?
There are special dog shampoos out there that help with dry skin and itching, if that is a problem. Paul Mitchell makes them. Try one that has tea tree in it.
