Ok, I'll agree, as far as to say that an overview should be taught. Kids should know the overarching tenets of each, and they should all be presented objectively and accurately. Herein lies the problem. People get emotional about thier religion if they have one, and can't then be objective. And religionists don't want those who don't have a religion teaching their kids anything about religion-especially in an objective way! For them is it very sinful to objectify their religion.
My assertion would be that if religion were taught objectively, all of them, side by side, and the oportunity given to ask questions and thoroughly analyze and compare ( and atheism also given as a viable option ), there would be more atheists in the world!

While I doubt just knowing about the tenets of all the religions would make anyone be an atheist I agree that objective teaching of religion is a positive thing.
