  • I went back to college at 36, I found adapting back into that classroom environment wasn't the easiest thing I had ever done, I had one instructor who's classes I found particularly difficult. He seemed to take off points for the slightest things, even if I had the calculations correct. I saw him in the halls one day and he stopped me to talk for a bit, and he proceeded to tell me how excited he was for me, that I was one of his most promising students and that I had a world of options open to me. He asked me to close my eyes and walk as slowly as I could. He directed me with his voice from one side of the property to the other and I just had to focus on his voice, to follow his instructions and felt my whole being the whole time, every muscle, every fiber. The whole way through people were coming up and asking what I was doing and joined in for a while but then left. I got to the end without opening my eyes for more than a second and he turned to me and said "I'm very proud that you were able to do that. You won't be ready to listen to that for a while" pointing to my CD player (pre-ipod, haha) which was earlier blaring punk music. It was the most peaceful I'd ever felt. Sorry for being verbose.
