"I wish I was a quarter as human as you are."

It was very sincere and from somebody who, no matter how hard he tried, ould not be anything but apathetic. For him to even appreciate such a quality was a stretch, so it meant a lot to me.

I went back to college at 36, I found adapting back into that classroom environment wasn't the easiest thing I had ever done, I had one instructor who's classes I found particularly difficult. He seemed to take off points for the slightest things, even if I had the calculations correct.
I saw him in the halls one day and he stopped me to talk for a bit, and he proceeded to tell me how excited he was for me, that I was one of his most promising students and that I had a world of options open to me.

Back in high school I was a D student at best.

I met a lovely American guy a few years ago, and whenever we talked on the phone, he said that listening to me talk (with my Australian accent) was like "linguistic cocaine". That one has yet to be topped.

My husband's Ex-wife said when she has to make a tough decision she askes herself, "What would Jeanne (That's me) do in this situation?" I was very flattered, if somewhat perplexed, by that statement.

To be honest, I've been very fortunate and have surrounded myself with loving people, who are very generous with their compliments. I've had more than a few that were quite memorable..some from my son, whom I would not want to embarrass by repeating them.. a few from my "second son"...he'd be embarrassed as well...you know how kids are about these things. I had a wonderful one from my grandfather on his deathbed..I've have some flattering ones from friends and even an occasional one or two from acquaintances/strangers. As I said, I attract really lovely people in my life. I am so lucky! :) ((hugs))

I used to be a member of a poets' message board, and I got a response to my poem "The Harper" from a blind man (born blind...) who operated his computer with special equipment... he told me he could see the music in my poem.

I think I cried when I read that message. ^_^

I went on vacation once, and when I got back to work, I had cut my hair short, shaved my full beard into a goatee, and gotten a dark tan. A good friend, (female, of course), said I looked just like Johnny Depp. She even brought me a pic the next day of him that did kinda looked like me. I was flattered.
Of course, that was 12 years ago. I'm about 20 lbs. heavier and retired, (medically), now.

While I was still dating my husband, and I still lived in the States, I will never forget the first trip to Belgium. His family was so warm and inviting, and even then made me feel like I was a part of the family. When he and his dad took me to the airport to fly back home, his dad cried. That, was the best compliment I have ever received.

That was a very revealing moment for me. :D

My daughter had to write a paper on where she'd go if she had a time machine. She said she'd go back to the year where we were the same age because she thought we'd be great friends.

I've been trying to help motivate a friend at the gym and when I asked her what her goals were, she said "I want to look like you". (I'm not happy with me yet, but it was still one of the nicest things someone had ever said to me.)

"You, of all people, better have children. The world will have some hope then."

That one made me tear up.

Aaaand... On the superficial side, a little girl told me I looked like an Asian Barbie Doll. I was 18 and transitioning out of a verrrrry long nerdy, all-about-school, ugly duckling awkwardness stage, and well... at the time, it was nice and sort of refreshing to hear.
