Yes. private pensions are not connected to social security.
yes...a woman can collect the Social security from the husband that earned the highest amt in his working years. I first collected from my third husband for ten years...now I collect from my 2nd husband because he made more money. The social security office will find out whose SS you should ask for and they will do it for you in just a few minutes at the SS office. Its free to find out.
As long as the private pension was not a government related job (such as post office, etc) then it should not effect her drawing SS. Question: is the regular Social Security she will be drawing or Social Security Disability? Have a reason for asking.
