My daughter had it when she was 3 years old. She was lethargic for 4-5 months afterwards and she still has the scars under her chin where they lanced the abcesses.

I had it as a teenager and didn't have any lasting effects.

I had it in my early 20's....and it left me tired for about 6 months afterward...but nothing in the past 40 years.

My daughter had mono when she was 5... She's now turning 12 and STILL has effects from having it. The mono completely destroyed her immune system. Since she had it, when she gets sick she gets twice a sick as a "normal" child would. A "normal" child will have a fever of 101*, my daughter reaches 104* and higher. A "normal" child is sick for 3 - 7 days, my daughter is sick for at least 10 days. She has had a reoccurence of mono twice. There just isn't enough time between illnesses to build up her immune system enough to fight off infections. She's ok through the spring & summer months, but as soon as fall & winter hit... She's home sick more than she's in school. I know a college student who had mono when she was about 12 or 13 and also STILL has effects from it. She tells me that she is the same way as my daughter when she gets sick.

I am sorry to hear about your daughter. Mono affects every person different. I find it interesting that she is still affected by the mono so many years later. Evidently she sufferes from what is known as Chronic Mononucleosis. This is very rare form of mono What I find most intresting though is that she has had mono more than once. There are various forms of epstein barr virus, this virus as I am sure you know, causese mono. Once your body gets a strain of Epstein Barr and clears it you are no longer susceptible to that strain. This means your daughter has had at three different strains of the virus. I am sure your doctors know what they are doing, but based on this information you have provided I almost wonder if your daughter has some other underlying issue such as an immune disorder. If this were ture then it would explain why your daugheter is so susceptible to getting ill. Maybe this is a possiblity you and your daughter could look into with your physicians. Lastly, let me answer your question. Generally once mono has run its course the person infected does not have lasting effects from it. There are always exceptions but in general she shouldn't have long lasting effects.

I had it when I was 8, and never had any effects afterwards.

I had mono about a year ago. I was out sick for about 2-3 months, but literally every month an a half to two months since then i get sick and feel the exact way from mono; it's not coincidence...and it sucks. My symptons include high fever around 102-103, achey, sore throat, headache, and lathargic and dizzy at times.

I had it when I was 15 with no lasting effects.

No but plenty of rest, and a proper diet are required for healing. A diet of raw foods is necessary. At least 50 % raw. Water and juice as well. No sugar or soft drinks either. Their often toxic to the immune system.
