Is that all there is to the problem?
-
You don't.
-
put 5 where the x is in the equation
-
ln(x)=5 is the same as e^5=x "e" should be a button on your calculator, or on mine it's "e^x" I got x=148.413
-
You are not telling us the equation that X is in. You have given us a "susbstitution" for X. Take 5 and place it in every occurance of X in your equation. Do the math and then you may say that for "X=5" Y=You do the math.
-
All the paper says is "Solve each equation" and the first one just says ln x = 5. Mhm :/
-
Don't worry, I'm just as lost as you are. But seriously, you should try stating the entire equation because it is missing a part for sure. Like other people say, just substitute x for 5 in all the places where X occurs. good luck!

ln x = 5 x = exponential^5 then use calculator

1) "The natural logarithm function, if considered as a real-valued function of a real variable, can also be defined as the inverse function of the exponential function, leading to the identities: e(ln(x)) = x if x>0 ln(e(x)) = x " Source and further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_logarithm 2) Let's define a new variable y so that: x = e(y) ln(x) = ln(e(y)) = y if y>0 As ln(x) = 5 we get: y = 5 (so y>0) x = e(y) = e(5) 3) If you understand inverse functions, a shorter solution is: ln(x) = y <=> x = e(y) (for x>0) In this case: ln(x) = 5 <=> x = e(5)

Natural Log or (ln) is a function commonly used to solve complex equations. Its slope (derivative) is 1/x. therefore you can take the inverse of log which is e. This is also a commonly used function as well whose derivative (slope) is the same as the function. Though e is aproximately 2.718. there is an e button on the calculator. If no calculator simply multiply e by itself 5 times. Good luck
