Help answer this question below.

I have a 16 year old son he recently came to me and said he wants to take female hormones, he said he wants to change his sex to female. as his mother i do not know whay to say.

    Take him to talk to a specialist. Show him people who have changed sexes are how it effects the rest of your life. Make sure he understands the procedures that you have to go through. Tell him it's a long process and he should only do it if he really feels he should have been born in a women's body. Educate him a lot about it because it might not be the choice he wants to make.

    Wow that must have come as a great shock to you. In my opinion i would sit your son down and have an open hearted chat to him telling him how you feel and most importantly listen to what he has to say. Afterall he is your son so dont be judgemental. Tell him you love him and will support him no matter what he decides but before you can do that he has to think long and hard about his choice. Tell him he is only sixteen and maybe confused but if he feels the same way at the age of seventeen then you will support him all the way. P.S Look up on the internet about hormone tablets and get yourself educated on how they work, the side effects, and reversal possibilities just so you are prepared for any questions your son may have.GOOD LUCK.

    I strongly recommend that you speak to a councillor/specialist about this.

    You need to have a few *long* talks about what he feels, why he feels that way and what the consequences of his choice might be. If he is sure and fully understands what he is doing, I think that you should support him.

    update it has been about 3 years since he told me he wanted to be a female. well he is taking estrogen along with other hormones to feminize himself under a doctors care. he ( i still have a difficult time thinking of him as a she) has small breast and his / her skin looks very female. i have come to gripps with the change. in 2 to 3 years he will have srs and become a total female. makes me sad though she / he is happy.
