I'm fairly confident that the authorities to listen to are not the ones saying "don't do anything".

Most of us are not authorities on the topic, including those with the most vocal views.

However, it does seem clear that those who are authorities are in pretty solid agreement -- that's good enough for us amateurs, in most cases.

One problem that the anti-consensus people have is credibility issues: for example, the infamous "Oregon Petition", which was cited as containing 30,000+ signatures of scientists who disputed the mainstream story on global warming, turned out on investigation to be essentially a scam. However, it still gets quoted as fact, because people aren't bothering to check their sources.

Like with most science-based issues, those of us who lack the training and time to devote our lives to the technical details are pretty much doomed to get our data feed from those who do. I really don't see a cure for that.

just between you, me and the wall..I am fairly young..only 40..when I was in school they were teaching us about the horrors of global cooling..the impending ice age and the lot...this generation gets global warming..by the time my grandchildren hit school, we will be back to global cooling..the temperature of earth goes through patterns..there was both global warming and global cooling before man took his first step in this world..hence multiple ice ages....the arrogance of man to think they can destroy what God has created before the appointed time...all that being said, that is not an excuse to abuse the earth or our resources..please be good keepers of what God has entrusted to us..all people of faith should not waste anything.

Washington, DC -- UK's Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, claimed House Democrats have refused to allow him to appear alongside former Vice President Al Gore at a high profile global warming hearing on Friday April 24, 2009 at 10am in Washington. Monckton told Climate Depot that the Democrats rescinded his scheduled joint appearance at the House Energy and Commerce hearing on Friday. Monckton said he was informed that he would not be allowed to testify alongside Gore when his plane landed from England Thursday afternoon. What is the deal here? Not sure why he was not allowed to testify -but it seems to me - they did not want his opinion to be heard.
