Red Rover, Red Rover... seriously scary game to play when your older... was playing with my friends one of who is a football player comes running at me I didn't break but I got elbowed somehow in the chin. Thought I was going to die. Later in the game I got knocked over completely. Didn't break just fell over. Although the best was neighborhood games of hide-and-go-seek at night. One person could be searching for hours.

I never remember this game having a name, but I used to play it with my brother. We would write little notes telling each other to go to a certain place or a certain thing, then there would be another note telling you to go somewhere else. It went on and on running us all over place until we found the 'prize', which was usually a chocolate bar or a new coloring book or something of the sort. I'm really looking forward to my son being old enough to play this game with my husband and I.

Fun question. Lets see. Mostly games we made up. 1. Orange ball -- Like baseball, but with oranges and a whiffle ball bat. (Yes, it got VERY messy) 2. The hallway game -- We played this at night, in my friend's hallway up stairs. First, we'd throw all kinds of pillows, blankets, stuffed animals and such in the hallway. Then we'd turn off the lights so it was pitch black. We'd have one room designated as the "counting room." The person who was "it" would go to that room and count to 100 or whatever, then go out into the hallway and find the other players. Of course it was dangerous..We were being hit left and right with pillows and falling all over the place. But it was funn!! 3. The Recycle Bin game -- We would go into my friend's laundry room, and kick plastic bottles around everywhere. We'd have different spots (the laundry basket, recycling bin, the top shelf), etc, that counted for different points if your bottle landed there. Ahhh, the good old days. We were always makin up new games. =) Nice question.

A pack of kids would ring my doorbell and ask me to play night games every night, we would go and ding dong ditch, play some off versions of games we had heard about.. i.e. sardines, hide and seek, tag, and this game[favorite] we would split into groups by way of team captains and play a sort of reverse capture the flag in the woods. •Each team has a basket[large metal trash can from the park] of equal size five feet from the nearest object, tree boulder, and in reasonable view. •Both sides get three water filled 1 gallon milk jugs •You now have to determine who will attack and who will defend the goal (usually ¾ of your team was defense). •Attackers get a neon ribbon tied to there arm, and everyone just knew who they were also. Play: -Split field at half mark -Attackers go out and try to throw their milk jugs into the opposing teams barrel. -Defenders must stay at least 10 feet away from basket., defense can't cross middle line. -Attackers tagged get their arm band removed and has to return to base and get a new one. -Team that gets all three milk jugs in first wins. I probably got some rules wrong but it's very open to change in materials and rules. It is also difficult to keep rules straight and cheating is often ignored but usually the hierarchy of kids takes care of that. *Someone always ended up being duct taped to something. It was surprising to me how much this game was like lacrosse once I took up the sport in high school.

We liked Staircase School in my neighborhood, because the houses on our street had a bunch of concrete stairs up to the porches. Oldest kid is the teacher. Everyone else sits in front of the bottom stair- that's "Kindergarten". Teacher asks questions and as the others get them right they ascend in "grade" until someone hits the top, and that's the winner. ~ Sadly I never actually got to PLAY because I was the oldest kid on my block AND I started school early, which meant I was in the highest grade in real school, so the other kids determined that it'd be unfair to let me do anything but be the teacher. I agreed, but... still. ~ I did get back at them by asking them to spell words like "phlegm". {evil snicker}
