When putting cattle out to pasture, often the grasses are high in protein and starch, which makes it too easy for the rumen to digest. This is a bigger problem in legume stands like clover and alfalfa. To reduce incidence of founder or bloat, let the cattle have access to roughage like hay, to help decrease the speed that this fresh green forage is digested.
