A goober

Question

Help answer this question below.

My cat literally acts like a dog. Greets me at the door, begs for food while standing on its hind legs, actually comes when called by name (none of the "kitty kitty" crap). Anyone else out there with a feline like this, or am I alone?

I am actually training mine to come when called, they do great, except they tend to both come no matter who I am calling.

And yes, my girl cat greets me at the door when I come home, all purrs and chirps. Boy cat is still sleeping (typical).

They also follow me around the house, like puppies.

  • How do you know the dogs aren't acting like a cat :) All my cats do the same as you mention. I have one cat who will lay by the door until I come home. Doesn't matter if I just run out to the garage and back or go our for a couple of hours. She is laying right behind the door and I need to push her away as I open it. Some cats do more "dog" like things than others but yours sounds like it is probably a character :)

One of my catsmakes a kind of "barking" sound (whuff) when he's mad. He also sits up for food when I say "sit up". If I say "tail" he swishes his tail. When he's outside I whistle to get him to come. Both him and my female cat will give "high fives". My female cat gives kisses when asked, and when I say "up" to her it means I'm going to pick her up for a hug. So she puts her paws on my knees. Then when I say "down" she knows I'm going to put her down so she straightens her back legs.

I just recently got a third cat--a kitten of about 7 months. I've already taught him "patty cake". (both paws instead of one).

  • No, you're not alone. Most of my cats have done/do similar things. I've even had cats that played fetch. It's not really that uncommon.

My kitten has been with my two dogs now for the last 4 months and she acts just like the dogs, when I head to fridge she and the dogs are right their, waiting for there treat, its really to cute, when I sit and watch TV she is right their on my lap and when I go to bed she is right their under the covers, I have another cat that likes it outside but does come in to eat and sleep. The new female kitten I got is much more lovable then my male even though he is very sweet also. I never had cats and now have two, and would not part with them. I truly love all of my animals. They really bring joy to our lives.
