You're reading Coughing serves an important purpose. So, when a child (or you) has a cough, why do we give them medication to stop it? Don't we want them to have their bodies help them expel whatever is irritating their lungs/trach? Why stop the cough?

Good answer, I was also wondering about fevers. Seems they do many things including MAKING you slow down and rest as your body needs all the energy it can muster to fight intruders. Seems like a good thing to do is listen to it and rest instead of feeling better which may limit needed rest.
