  • The Age of Majority in Texas is 18 years old. You are legally your parents responsibility and thus, under their governance, until then unless you petition the court for emancipation. http://www.legaltips.org/texas/CP/cp.006.00.000129.00.aspx
  • Actually your an adult at age 17. The page or website that you are quoting is the civil practices law. Look up the penal code.......Big difference.
  • Believe me on this one ! You... legally as far as consequences go ,are an adult at 17 . Having said this ... Means that if you do something wrong at 17 you can be HELD as an adult and go to jail . Which means some serious stuff ! But you continue to be your parents responsibility till you are 18 . Or yoiu can get imanciapted . But this means you will assume ALL responsibilities on your OWN ! Rent , Elect. ,Gas, food, health insurance , car insurance . You CAN be sued, and that means your parents can't bail you out ! If you are under the age of 18 it is unlikely that you are making enough money to cover just the rent . I've talked to my attorney , a family court judge , and 2 different police departments on this matter .... I know ! Some think 17 you ARE and adult ...only in the matter of being held resposible for your actions . 18 you ARE a legal adult . And are NOT your parents responsibility any longer .
  • you have rights in texas when you're 18. (but yes, you can be punished at an adult at 17 or even younger.)
  • can your parents say you don't respect them or listen to them and send you some place when you are 17 years old??
