It's about time. The sheer difficulty in obtaining it is quite a roadblock for some girls. I knew a 25 year old, married woman who had to take a day off work and drive all around the western part of the state just trying to get one of those buggers.

I think its a disgusting idea but, sadly necessary in many cases! Maybe they should concentrate more on educating people about sexual health rather than dealing with it when its too late!
-
Part of me says I don't like it at all. But on the other hand, who really hasn't been sexually active at the age of 17? I lost my virginity at 17. You can buy condoms at any age, so I guess there's no reason no to sell the pill. But still, when you offer all the easy to access contraceptives to young teens it's almost as if you're promoting sex. Yeah, we want them to be safe...but we also don't want our teens having sex all the time like its no big deal.

For me this is a lesser of 2 evils issue. In a perfect world teens wouldn't get pregnant & this pill wouldn't be needed. However, they do, frequently, so it's better to address the issue in a proactive manor like this than just continuously deal with the consequences of unwanted pregnancy.

I think its great, best thing Ive heard all day... Let the good times roll!
-
It's good, although the pill itself is a crap form of contraception - it has so many horrible side effects that it wouldn't sell if it were for men.
-
I feel bad.Teenagers risk themselves to get risky pleasure and then they suffer various worries. It's going to be risky game with life. And again drug companies are the one who are enjoying the enormous benefits. What a pity!

I think if they're going to make that pill available without a prescription, they should put some kinds of restrictions on them. You can't even buy some cold pills without having to sign something anymore!! They should have these kids sign for them and keep records in a database. If they are using them over and over, there should be some kinds of limitations or follow up.

Do you prefer an unplanned pregnancy in a high school student? Big changes in her life! One more kid on SSI, Medicaid, foodstamps ....
-
This happened yesterday. I was amazed because I had not heard about it. But we are living in a crazy world right now and now I'm wondering what is next. How do I feel? I feel amazed!

Surely isn't change I could believe in. Actually, maybe it is, but why stop at 17? Why not 12? Why not go ahead with mandatory pre-school for all three year olds and take away school choice, like promised, and put the government in charge of raising your kids all together. I mean, if we're all to stupid and incompitant to know when to turn on and off lights without the government's help, sure we can't make the righ decisions when it comes to raising our own children.

I thought adults needed a prescription to get it. I don't see any problem with allowing 17 year olds to use it in the same manner that someone a few months older would. Education is best. Not having children that will have terribly underprivileged lives and parents without any preparation is definitely worse.

i like it, this means i can have unprotected sex and take the morning after pill w/o my parents knowledge. im not saying that now im gonna go around and have unprotected sex with as many guys as possible, but if i do end up having unprotected by accident then i have a fall back and my parents wont have to find out that i am sexually active

Just another sign of the decaying morales in America.
-
The authorities are soooo out of touch. 15 years olds are already taking all kinds of pregnancy killer pills from who knows where.
-
i heard about that but i dont know what it is
-
Great idea, now if they would only include good sex education and free condoms it would be better.
-
I must admit I don't like it at all. I think it's very immature not just for the 17yr. olds to have sex without concern, but for the people who make this avail. If your mature enough to have sex then you should be mature enough to use proper protection.

I could step on a few toes here. Y'see, the whole Worlds way of thinking and living has changed dramatically in the last fifty years. When I was an early teenager, I didn't have a clue about womens menstral cycle, bra's, I'm not joking, all that stuff didn't come into our lives until much later. Now, don't get me wrong, somehow the urge to have a girl freind and try to do you weren't sure what with her was important. Today sex is pushed at kids at a very early age and of course they will be curious. I think I would rather know of the Morning after pill than see my youngsters life ruined by a possible mistake she made at a time when hormones etc. are kicking in.
