  • Well when I was 17 i stayed home for a few days with my younger brother who was 13 at the time, and I live in pennsylvania, what a coincidence. As long as the 17 year old has his license and is responsible enough to take care of things, things will go fine. Just check up on them occasionally by calling them.
  • I'm in Australia, so I don't know your state laws. But I also would take into account how responsilbe and mature these kids are. I have met some 30+ who I wouldn't leave alone. :-)
  • Almost any 17 year old would be fine under those circumstances. You might be concerned about your oldest wanting to party while you're gone, but I believe that to be a risk worth taking. Teenagers resent their parents for not trusting them, even if they DO have questionable plans in mind.
  • I'm 17 and I'm home alone for two weeks right now. My 13 year old brother would be here with me, but he's at a camp in Quebec. I haven't had (and don't plan on throwing) a party. I'll go to one, but never in my own house. I value the trust my parents have in me to leave me alone for two weeks. Since my parents have been though, I have had people over...but never more than 2 at a time. My boyfriend came over two days ago and stayed over until today actually. But I don't think that's wrong. If you trust your kid(s), then use this time as a sort of test. To see if you really can trust them alone.
  • It's your decision. Has he shown you that he's responsible? Is so let it be.
  • If you think you can trust your 17 year old...you should also consider about your 13 year old.
