Answerbag is the junk food of social interaction. It's pleasurable, and if you have trouble socializing IRL, it's better than being isolated. But a person can't live off of online interaction alone. In some cases, using forums too much can lead to bad habits, like trouble with oral communication or over-relying on the advice of strangers to make a decision. With that said, it is a good place to vent your feelings and meet like-minded people. And I do love me some AB junk food!

I think it is quite the opposite, it helps people who are otherwise socially unavailable, to be in a situation where they feel they can control it, more are becoming very social with these types of websites.

Almost like a stepping stone of getting them comfortable with talking and dealing with people, before they go out and deal with people in their daily lives.

No, my psychoanalysis doctor told me that it was very healthy to exchange your thoughts and ideas in a forum such as Answerbag. You must be confused!

I think it depends on the opportunities you have to interact with people during the day.

If you feel no need to connect to people face-to-face because you have interacted via computer, that would be very antisocial. It takes the person out of the conversation, eliminating many social cues such as tone of voice, body language, and facial movements.

Of course, if you spend time face-to-face with people on a daily basis, then use the internet to extend your interactions, that would have a positive affect. IMHO.

No, before the invention of the computer, and believe me, I actually remember those days, we had TV and of course books before that. There has always been something for the antisocial people to do, way before blogging/ABing.

In point of fact, we still have books, and have had all along. Before books, there was always "questing" I suppose.

Thinking about it, before the leisure time wasters we have now, there was that thing called work, that most people had to do from the time they woke up until they went to bed, and the majority of people in the world still have to do.
