My grandfather's cane kicks ass. It has a large silver head and silver tip. It has carvings down the side as well. All related to his firefighting days. I don't know the type of wood.

i was at a festival and this man had a booth where he carved things. He had a cane that had several beautiful carvings on it. It had faries and elves and a small house carved into the side of it

Sorry to hear about the leg. I like the cane that Dr. House uses. Simple wooden cane with flames at the bottom. I have something similar.

I have one, a common one. The handle goes up your arm to near the elbow, you have another smaller handle which you hold in your hand and take your weight with. Not a good explanation but, works a charm for me.

Had the same kind of cane for over 25 years and loved it. (Now using a collapsable walking stick instead of a cane)

It's black metal cane .. can adjust the height .. rubber tip on floor end .. but the best part was the handle. It was very "wide" so the whole palm of your hand fits on top of it. Gave lots of stability. I didn't need it so much for weight bearing but did need it for balance. And it was "great" to hold onto when trying to get up! Still have it. (And a folding walker too) Never know when I might need either of them again. :)

My mother-in-law has a cane that has four legs at the bottom so it has more support. It stands upright and seems to be more stable to use than a regular cane. It is the best one I have seen. +3

My husband has not been able to walk unassisted in over 5 years. He's had to use a wheelchair and crutches; but my son actually found some kind of beautiful, twisted wood that he removed the bark from, smoothed and sanded it and then sealed it with I guess some type of varnish. It's so cool looking, it reminds me of a staff more than a cane and reminds me of something Moses would have used! My daughter gave him a cane with an eight ball at the top; that's pretty cool too.

I've got a ridiculously simply hickory cane that I used several years ago when my fibromyalgia was really bad. It is under better control now, and I don't need the cane to walk, but I keep it by my bed in case someone breaks in. It is about as solid as a baseball bat, to woe unto anyone who comes in in the middle of the night.

Cains from Mexico are carved from handle to tip and highly decorated and bright painted and not expensive either.

I live on the border with Mexico

Agent STEED's cane in THE AVENGERS tv series. He did not need a cane, being able bodied, it was the sort of acessory the english gent of the time would carry - - - but it was soooo much more :))
