2-3-2017 "mp" stands for "megapixel" which is a million pixels, maybe. Each pixel takes three bytes, so a megapixel is three million bytes. "Mega" is the abbreviation of "million", except in computers it can be either 10^6 or 2^20 which is 1,048,576. Likewise, a kilobyte is either 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. So the translation from one to another is pretty sloppy. It reaches a point where you just act like you have heard the expression before, not expecting any exact meaning.
