I don't think that Wicca is THE magical religion. In fact, all religions have some elements of magic in them. Wicca happens to be one of many religions that contains strong beliefs in magic, spells, and ritual. We are certainly not the only religion to do so. I must also add the disclaimer that not all Wiccans practice magic in the form of spellcasting.

We believe that the Divine permeates everything. We also realize the energy that flows through everything; that we are, in fact, all parts of one large WHOLE. As such, we believe that if we send our intent out into the whole, it can come back as manifested in the physical world. All parts of spells, from the common Wiccan view, serve only to focus on your intent and release it into the whole to be fulfilled.

The use of magic dates to pre-Christian religions and probably started in the form of fertility rituals for harvest and children. Wicca is a new religion that is based upon these pre-Christian beliefs.

I hope this helps you to understand the beliefs of Wiccans in regards to magic.

In all technicality, Wicca would be the Magickal religion, if it were one at all. Like Antigone Rising said, almost all religions have some sort of magic (or magick) in them, some believe in the divine.

  • 'Magical' and 'supernatural' have similar meanings. The Hebrew Bible [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew_Bible], in the Book of Genesis [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Genesis], describes an all-powerful, invisible spirit whom the writers called 'God.' The writers claimed that this invisible spirit created heaven and earth. Whether you call that 'supernatural' or 'magic' is a matter of preference.

Similar creation myths are found throughout history. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creation_myth] Each one claims to be the one, true account of god(s) and the creation of the universe ('heaven').

Take your pick, or reject them all and go to college and study science. Religion and mythology are beliefs. Science is knowledge. Most folks go with one or the other.
