    Absolutely!

Star Trek has more cerebral elements. Star Wars has more visceral elements. This newest movie combines both together. Now, thanks to J.J. Abrams, we can start expecting to see combinations at sci-fi conventions like:

    Andorian Bounty Hunter
    Klingon Sith Lord
    Borg Jedi
Gungi (a Ferengi/Gungan hybrid that looks like Jar Jar Binks and is a profit seeking womanizer like the Ferengi)

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!

Do not continue to read if you haven't seen the movie yet, and you don't want to know about events in the movie.....

The major oversight in the movie is that the artificial black hole was opened up via Red Matter while Spock was over Romulus (according to on screen evidence and dialog). He should have come out in the same location, but not the same time. When he entered the event horizon he was shunted through time (not over distance) 25 years into the past. He should have still been over Romulus. He encounter Nero's ship when he exited the artificial black hole, and Nero should have also been over Romulus (according to on screen dialog stating that Spock's arrival was almost instantaneously after Nero had gone through).

But the movie made sure that didn't happen by placing both ships somewhere in deep space far removed from Romulus.

Plus, according to Spock, Nero had 25 years to wait for Spock to arrive. 25 years in the past "before" the events that destroyed his life in the future, and he never once tried to stop the disaster by warning his people. Sheer stupidity. Dialog was even spoken on screen telling Nero that he could save his family, but he retorted that they were already dead as far as he was concerned; which (according to on screen dialog) they were not.

I guess Logic has no place in a Star Wars/Star Trek Hybrid movie.

No. Star Wars is fantasy with little furry creatures. Star Trek is good science fiction.

Just a really biases opinion :)

The new Star Trek movie is the best ever!!!!

Actually, more like Battlestar Galactica in the internal design of the ship. Like Star Wars in the use of warp speed in that you really can't see the light transmissions of the stars at that speed. Also in that it takes less time to get from one star system to another, at anything greater than warp one, than was represented in any of the previous movies or series. In that Star Wars was a poor example.

Based on what I've seen from the trailers, it does seem to be somewhat like Star Wars. That's a good thing though, because I'd much rather watch Star Wars then Star Trek.

maybe superficially (another answer pointed that out), but Star Wars invariably deals with the machinations of those in supreme power.

Star Trek is more personal, taking a slice out of normal-people life and examining character.

Star Wars deals more with myth and universals.

I haven't seen the new "Star Trek" yet, but I certainly hope not. For me there is a distinct difference in the two; "Star Wars" I classify as science fantasy: a sort of high tech Arthurian tale of knights, princesses and wizards, and "Star Trek" a science fiction: a fanciful story of future space exploration and colonization. I prefer "Star Trek" but enjoy both for their individual style, and I would be disappointed if that were to change. If they have crossed over with "Star Trek" I think it would show a lack of understanding and respect for the different styles.

I know what u mean. Although I would neccessarily say Star Wars they definitely gave it the balls it was missing before.

Not so much Star Wars didn't use red matter as a weapon, anyway they needed to change the series the original cast is all about dead or near it and so are the original viewers. It was a very sad film with a lot of deaths which usually never happens in Star Trek. Plus they kept it a secret about what they were doing.

Star wars came out at least a decade ,or more, after the TV series Star Trek was airing it's show. The earlier movies where based on the TV series with the same actors, characters and story lines. After a few movies, unfortunately the characters changed as they did with the TV show and second generation Star Trek.I do not see any similarities at all between Star Trek and Star Wars.

It was certainly dumbed way down from the original show. I would say the new movie was maybe beneath Star War intellectually, and not above it in any way. It was far closer to Star Wars than any of the movies thus far. If I had to describe it, it would be classified as Juvenile. The intelligent sci fi of space exploration in the 23rd century presented in the 1966 to 1967 Television series has been reduced to a modern day watered down version of Buck Roger. This is actually the type of show that NBC wanted Roddenberry to do back in the 1960s, but he fought against it. NBC wanted more space battles and less story and less thought provoking elements. Now they've got their wish. The movies have now been reduced to mindless action adventure. Now the people who didn't like the thinking man's version of Star Trek have control, and it has become entertainment for the masses. But the masses are fickle and they won't stick around long. But fans of the original show won't come back either. Once you've cheapened a product it's hard to bring back the original quality.
