You don't really have to associate your song with a genre when you write the song. It is up to the recording artist to decide how they want your song to sound. If a country artist records your song, the genre will be country. If a jazz artist records your song, the genre will be jazz. Perhaps it is better not to assign a genre to your songs - that way you will open up more opportunities when artists listen to your songs looking for their next big hit!
