You can receive moderation points is you flag Q&A's as duplicate, nonsense, offensive or spam. The moderators review your flag and then if it is accepted, you receive 5 points.

These are points you get for appropriately flagging a question as a duplicate, nonsense, spam/offensive, or wrong category. The flag has to be upheld by the site's monitors. Similarly, answers can be flagged and mod points received for notifications of nonsense or spam/offensive answers.

Moderation points refer to accepted flaggings. You can flag questions as - spam/offensive - nonsense - duplicate - wrong category The first 2 flaggings are also possible for answers. You get 5 moderation points per accepted flagging, but your +% percentage in moderation sinks for refused flaggings.
