An article is a completely different animal from a short story. An article is non-fiction; it either explains stuff (exposition) or provides a narrative of some event or events. Most articles have a mixture of exposition and narrative. It's true that some articles, especially genre items like sports stories, can resemble fiction (and sometimes they ARE fiction) but a well-written article's first priority is to get across the facts.
