Question

Help answer this question below.

I have a '97 Taurus. My car has been misfiring & running rough. Replaced plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel filter and put Lucus in to clean injectors. Didn't help. Now I hear a knockin sound. Could this be a stuck injector or could misfire cause rod knocking?

It depends on precisely what the 'knocking sound' is, & where its coming from. Injectors will not 'knock' - at most, they will 'tick'. A 'knock' is gen'.ly 'deep' within the engine, and frequently indicates a problem with the crankshaft, or connecting rods. If so, this is what you may have thought was a 'miss'. (or, a true 'miss' may have damaged the crank &/or rods). It sounds as tho you will need the assistance of a competent mechanic to properly diagnose. P.S.: In all likelihood, the timing is computer-controlled, & is not adjustable.

    Check the timing.
