Because I am an omnivore. I have canine teeth for ripping flesh of bone and molars for grinding veggies.

Because I require essential amino acids and a range of vitamins and minerals to maintain a healthy diet and if I ate the equivalent in beans and pulses and dairy I get bad flatulence and stomachache (I attempted not eating meat and suffered for it).

Because humans have been eating meat for 100,000s of years and I am following the tradition of my people.

Because even though I love animals, my own health is more important to me than my political ideals.

Because it fills me up and leaves me satisfied.

- I am not preaching, I hate animals, workers, and the environment even more than you do. I posted the above comment to prove that I know that I don't need meat, but I hate animals, the environment, workers, and my arteries more than most people do. For most people, eating meat is about the way it tastes. For me, it is about inflicting pain on animals and abusing the environment. Just got done eating 6 fast-food mega bacon cheese burgers in my SUV at the Mississippi river. While I was there I emptied the dirty motor oil that I recently changed into the river.

- Someguy, I don't buy vegetarian products that are marketed to look like animal products. I buy whole foods and work with them. Sometimes I alter them through cooking and sometimes I don't. Generally, the less processed, sprayed, fertilized, pasteurized, roasted ... the better. I am hoping to have an orchard and vegetable garden someday to pick fresh produce from my yard. But, for now I rely on retailers.

If you are going to have a debate it is general etiquette to do it away from another users answer. How can you have an effective debate without a chair person anyway? Now I see that you both agree on a common point (i.e. on me) you are starting to have a nice conversation again. Because I hate cows, pigs, and chickens. I know that I am clogging my arteries by eating them, but they always look at me so smugly. I have the last laugh when they are being slaughtered.

I also hate workers. My meat-meals require lots of labor compared to plant-meals. They are prepared through a chain of work that is composed of immigrant labor and labor from citizens that are at the bottom of the totem pole. The immigrants and destitute Americans who prepare my meals (through laboring in the fields to feed the livestock, feeding the livestock and slaughtering the livestock, cooking the livestock, and serving the livestock pieces to me) are treated slightly better than the animals I eat. I don't like animals or workers that think they deserve better in their lives. The animals do not deserve better lives, and the workers do not deserve better lives.

However, eating meat does increase the need for heart surgeons, oncologists and endocrinologists. These are high-paying, prestigious jobs, and the meat industry can be credited with providing more job openings in this area. So, some people's lives are improved by the meat industry.

I also hate clean air, low pollution levels, animal welfare and agricultural efficiency. Every time some green head or animal lover talks of these things I eat a pound of beef and dump a quart of motor oil in the local lake.

- I do not eat meat for my own good either because of cardiovascular and colon problems caused by the practice. However, I bet those creatures would eat me if we traded places, so I must get revenge by paying others to slaughter them. I get so angry when I think about those animals that are unemployed and have few worries when compared to the people I know. All things are temporary in this world. Everything dies. So I can't really see any inherent evil in dining on animal flesh. There's unnecessary cruelty in the business of raising animals, for sure. But eating 'em, that's just good nutrition.

Earth is a planet with life forms that consume other lifeforms to survive...few exceptions (like maybe underwater high temperature thermal algaes)...that said I do not eat any animal protein except chicken and eggs...and gradually I am trying to replace my chicken with vegetable protein...but I am still consuming life.

- When a rabbit, squirrel, or cat crosses your path, does instinct impel you to chase the animal? I think that the plastic packaging and USDA seal on plastic wrapped meat is what makes it fly off the shelves. If people had to kill what they eat, or drink milk right from the mammary glands of a cow, many peoples instincts would tell them not to do those things.

- NO, i meant the instict to eat meat, to fulfill our metabolic needs. Smoking tobacco is a fad, a long-lived one at best. Eating other animals to sustain survival, that is a deep seated instinct. Obviouslt we've become a bit more civilized about the whole thing, but as a part of out biological maek-up, out bodies need protein and fat,both of which come easily from meat. Now obviously there are those that feel that eating meat is cruel and unnatural, and they make their way without meat. But as a general statement, its in our instinct to eat meat.
